It was a warm summer evening, and the excitement in the air was evident as students gathered in the school hall for the annual welcome party. The event was a chance for everyone to showcase their talents and bond with new classmates. I had been practicing for weeks, preparing a dance routine that I hoped would impress my peers and help me make new friends.

As the evening progressed, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement building up inside me. The performances before mine were impressive, and the audience’s applause (掌声) and cheers filled the hall with energy. Finally, my name was called, and it was my turn to step onto the stage.

Taking a deep breath, I walked confidently to the center of the stage. The spotlight shone brightly, and I could feel the eyes of the audience on me. The music began, and I started my dance. Everything was going smoothly until, halfway through my routine, disaster struck. My shoe lace (鞋带) had come undone, and before I knew it, my foot caught on the lace, causing me to trip and fall hard onto the stage.

Time seemed to stop moving as I lay there, and there was silence in the hall. Then, the silence was broken by laughter and the sound of cameras clicking. Some students were even pointing and laughing. My face turned red with embarrassment, and I wished the ground would swallow (吞下) me up right then and there.

Just as I was about to get up, still terrified, my teacher, Mrs. Johnson, appeared on stage. She walked over to me, her e-xpression showing concern and determination. Gently helping me to my feet, she turned to the audience and addressed them with a firm voice.

“Everyone makes mistakes,” she said, her voice ringing through the hall. “It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of the audience, and we should support each other, not make fun of each other. I expect better from all of you. We are a community, and we must lift each other up, especially in moments like these.” The hall suddenly fell silent.

With a smile, Mrs. Johnson gave me a gentle push to continue my performance. Though my legs were shaking and my heart was pounding, I took another deep breath, steadied myself, and restarted the music. The encouraging smiles and nods from the audience gave me the strength I needed. As I moved across the stage, I poured my heart into the dance, with each step and every movement becoming more confident. The audience began to clap along, and their energy inspired me. By the time the final note played, I felt a wave of relief and accomplishment wash over me.

After my performance, I walked off the stage. My classmates surrounded me, their faces filled with concern. “Are you okay?” “That was so brave of you!” “I’m sorry for laughing earlier.” The warmth and support I felt in that moment were overwhelming. It was as if the embarrassing stumble had turned into a bonding experience for all of us. I realized then that this was more than just a welcome party; it was the start of new friendships and a reminder of the power of support. Mrs. Johnson’s words transformed an embarrassing moment into a lesson in kindness.
